About Water System Logbook

Many small drinking water systems are run by people whose main job is something else: owning a mobile home park, managing a campground, maintaining a school or a rural business. The daily round at the well house still has to happen, and the record of it still has to be right.

Water System Logbook exists to make that record easier to keep. This site has free log sheets and calculators that work without an account, and guides to the rules in plain English. The Water System Logbook iPhone app keeps the same log digitally.

How the guides are sourced

Every regulatory statement on this site is taken from the regulation or official agency document it cites: the Code of Federal Regulations for federal rules, and state administrative codes and agency guidance for state pages. Each guide lists its sources and the date it was last checked. When something couldn't be verified from a primary source, we left it out rather than guess.

The guides are general information, not legal or regulatory advice, and they don't replace your state drinking water program or a certified operator. Rules change, and your state can add requirements for your system.

How the tools work

The calculators run entirely in your browser; nothing you enter is sent anywhere. The meter usage calculator uses the same rules as the iPhone app, and is tested against the app's own code: exact decimal arithmetic, readings ordered by when they were taken, and meter resets handled as a new baseline.
